As I was contemplating what teas, what books, and what small business to feature for the month of October, it really didn’t take me long to realize that I should feature the very same tea business whose tea I am reviewing, Brutaliteas. I mean, it is pretty perfect, right? Since October represents the spooky season, why not feature a small business that names its teas after horror movies and their characters and review some of their teas?
Brutaliteas began in 2016 at a Denny’s in New Jersey. As Courtney wrote in the “About” section on the Brutaliteas website, “Yes, you read that right…Brutaliteas was officially born at a Denny’s!”
Courtney has had a love, a passion, and an interest in the loose-leaf tea industry for the past fifteen years, but wanted to do more with that love, that passion, that interest. She was creating her own loose leaf tea blends, and she wanted to make something out of them, do something with them. The question, though, was what exactly.
As she stated, “I didn’t want something that was like everything else out there. I wanted something different. Something unique. Something that myself and others could really connect with on a different level. There are more than enough tea brands out there, but how many of those have something about them that someone can really relate to on a more personal level?”
I love this because I feel like it resonates with everyone looking to start a small business or anyone looking to write their next book. Will anyone be interested in this? Will anyone relate to this? Personally, I use these questions to help me write my books.
Sorry. I digress.
So, it wasn’t until a dear friend of Courtney and Adam’s (her partner and the man behind the tea names) jokingly asked, “Why don’t you make some metal sounding teas? Some teas with brutal names?” (Direct quote from the site.)
After laughing, probably thinking, “Yeah, what a concept,” they realized, “Wow, what a concept. Let’s give it a try.”
Six short (but probably felt like an eternity to them) months later, the website for Brutaliteas was launched with just twenty-five teas and… people bought them over and over again. Now, there are over a hundred teas available on the site with names that represent horror movies and heavy metal bands.
I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting Courtney and Adam a couple of times, and they have always been so kind and so humble. Every time I have posted about their teas on my social media, they always comment saying, “Thank you,” and how appreciative they are for the review. Plus, they love doing charity work, especially giving back to animal shelters and animal rescues.
Speaking of, coming soon, Brutaliteas will be launching a second line of teas called PURRsonaliTeas. These teas will be more cat-themed and they’re geared more toward their fundraising efforts. To learn more and to find out when exactly PURRsonaliTeas will launch, follow them on Facebook or on Instagram.
Please note I am not getting paid by this business to feature them on my site. I am just a fellow small business owner trying to support others.
