Tea Spotlight: Brutaliteas

Back in 2021 or 2022, I attended Garden State Comic Fest in Morristown, New Jersey. It is one of the biggest and one of the best comic fests in Jersey and it was just right down the road from my house. BONUS! Haha!

While walking around, I found a coffee company that stopped me and started talking to me. I told them I don’t drink coffee; I’m more of a tea drinker. That’s when they told me that out in the hallway, there’s a tea company called Brutaliteas that I need to check out. To say my mind exploded when I heard this would be an understatement. I thanked them and immediately went on a hunt to find this company.

Not even a minute later, I found them and started exploring the different teas they had and learning more about them. When they told me that they name their teas after horror movies, heavy metal songs, and hard rock bands, I was sold. Tell me no more, just take my money. Haha!

I took three different teas home that day, eager to give them a try. You will see those three below plus a new one I just bought in February that I’m finally trying now.

Enjoy!

Brutaliteas: My Last Lemonade

I can’t remember if it was this one or Bananabelle that I grabbed first, but once I read what was in this tea, I had to bring it home and give it a try. Plus, they have the teas in containers where you can smell them, and I remember sniffing this one and almost fainting because it smelled so good. Let’s just say, if you are a fan of Trix cereal, then you will love this tea. I swear, when I smelled it, I said to myself, “Boy, this smells very familiar.” It had this very fruit scent that I recognized from my childhood, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was until I made it for the first time. Once the boiling water hit it and the scent started wafting up, I took one whiff and I shouted, “Oh my gosh, it’s Trix!”

Then I took my first sip and melted. It was so good! Even the taste is fruity with this burnt/bitterness from the green tea mixed in and it still reminded me of Trix. Like I wanted to go out a buy a box, but realized, “I’m better off drinking this tea and enjoying it this way. I at least know what the ingredients are, and I know each ingredient will give me a different benefit instead of getting the cereal, which is not healthy for me.” Haha!

If you love green teas, fruity teas, or if you’re like me and love both, then you definitely need to try this tea. You can find it here.

Brutaliteas The Walking Ginger Dead

Okay, where are my fellow gingerbread fans at? Raise your hands because I just found an amazing tea I think you’ll love.

Back in February of 2024, I attended I Heart Horror Day, Part II as an author selling my books, but before the festivities started, I was able to walk around and guess who I found? My favorite tea company, Brutaliteas. I was so excited when I saw them and they were, as always, very kind and inviting. I noticed they had their special Valentine’s Day teas (I will review those for the February 2025 newsletter), which I grabbed, but I wanted to get one of their regulars. I looked through and found this one. They had it in a container and when I smelled it, I was sold.

Seriously, let’s talk about the scent of this particular tea for a hot second. It was like they baked a gingerbread cookie and placed it in the bag, it smelled SO good! Then, after letting it steep in hot water for about four minutes, I took my first sip and, as per usual, melted. The combination of all the different spices, plus the black tea, plus the rooibos tea is actually amazing. The burnt/bitter/earthiness of the black tea hits you first, then the… you know, I can never describe the flavor of rooibos tea, so if you can, please let me know. It’s been bothering me for years now. Haha! But, yes, then you get the flavor of the rooibos tea, followed by the delicious spiciness of the ginger, cloves, and cardamom as an aftertaste.

This is another perfect tea to enjoy during the fall and winter season, especially if you like to bake for the holidays. It’ll give you the perfect pick me up (thank you, black tea) plus put you in a killer holiday mood. If you want to give it a try, you can find it here.

Brutaliteas: Bananabelle

This was one of the other teas I grabbed when I was first introduced to Brutaliteas back in 2021/2022 at Garden State Comic Fest. First, if you’re a fellow horror fan, then you know what this tea is named after, which is one of the reasons why I picked it up. (If you’re not, it’s named after Annabelle, the demonic doll from The Conjuring series.) Second, the smell of this tea… let’s just say, if you love the scent of bananas, then you will love the smell of this tea. Just so sweet and so fruity mixed in with this earthy scent from the black tea. And then, I tasted it.

Now, reminder, all of Brutaliteas teas are loose leaf, meaning you spoon in the tea into your own tea bag, tea pot, or tea holder. This also means you can make the tea as strong or as light as you would like. Me, it depends on the day. Haha! If I make it stronger, than the tea gods thought I needed a little pick me up. The day I had this tea was a day I apparently needed a pick me up. The black tea definitely comes out strong, but it is followed by all the amazing fruity flavors in this tea including banana, strawberry, coconut, and pineapple.

If you want to give it a try, you can find it here.

Brutaliteas: Waking the Lavender

This is the last tea I tried for October (I do have more teas from this company for the future) and it did not disappoint. I remember when I found Brutaliteas at the comic fest, they were sampling this tea but as an iced tea, which I appreciated since it was hot out. I remember when the owners Courtney and Adam told me the name and the fact that there’s lavender in this tea. I did not hesitate for one second; I had to try this tea. If there’s one thing you haven’t learned about me yet, it is my affinity for this beautiful and delicious flower.

However, what’s funny is the fact that I definitely tasted the earthy/burnt/bitterness of the black tea, and I do taste the fruity flavor of the blueberry, but I really don’t taste the lavender, which is a little heartbreaking to me. Lavender has a distinct taste–one of the reasons why I love it so much–but I’m not tasting it. And I think in the past, when I’ve had it, I don’t really remember tasting it. Now, that could be because I didn’t get enough of it on my spoon. That could be because each time I’ve had it, the tea gods felt I needed a pick me up. Whatever the reason is, I’m a little disappointed, but I do not hate this tea. I will gladly have it over and over again.

If you want to give it a try, you can find it here.

In the end, out of the teas I have from this amazing company (I do have I think two more that I will share with you in the future, and I plan on buying more), I have enjoyed each and every single one of them. Now, what’s funny is the majority of the ones I have are black teas, so that means I need to find some more green teas and other teas to try from this company (oh, darn), but Brutaliteas has not disappointed me. To learn more about them and to see what other teas they offer, check out their website.

Please note I am not getting paid to review these teas or promote this brand. I am just a tea drinker enjoying some teas.
